Key to learning – working with shapes 2

Today we started discussing a cat that arrived to Iceland from Spain. It had many colors and consisted of different shapes. So what shapes could we find and what colors for different items or characters in the book? We looked in our ReMiDa and found different materials.

We played with the materials and found different solutions.

Some of the shapes did not have the right colours…this is what we did.

Key to learning – working with shapes 1

We are now preparing for changing the pictures of the book “Saga of the Green Cat” into shapes inspired by “Key to learning – Literacy” (see further http://wp.me/P6Y4DC-8Q). Then we started out reading the book the children made during our “Four Headed Dragon project” (see further http://wp.me/P6Y4DC-pn). Then we read the book of the Green Cat and found different items and caracters that we would like to transform into shapes: the cat, the dog, the mouse, the sun, the ball, the feet, the house, the flowers and the old pot.

Now we needed to discover and discuss different possibilities.

We thought the sun, the pot and the ball looked like circles and drew pictures of these items.

Where do cats hide?

We have found different places outdoors where we think cats enjoy to hide themselves. We think they like to hide behind stones.

We also think they hide in the grass or this old flowers.

20_sept_2016-3

We think they like to hide in these ruins.

Look this cat came along and decided to hide there, can you see it?We think cats hide from dogs.

We think the cat wants to eat the duck. The cat might go into the water to get the ducks.

Since the children thought that  cats might hide at the giantess we decided to check it out. We were going to bring our green cat along with us…but for some strange reason we could not find him. We looked everywhere….(maybe he is hiding in Reykjaneshöllina, London or even America?) Instead we brought the cats we received from you all. Look here where we think they would hide at the Giantess.

When we were to leave a cat appeared and look where he decided to hide.

The saga about the magic egg

Four children in Lundur have been making a saga about cats.

First they sat down and named all the cats and talked about what they would do in the saga.

In the saga shows how the childrens knowledge come alive. We have been working with the word “bounce” in text talk and their knowledge of the book “the green cat saga” also shows in the saga about the magic egg.
